“Deep grounding” is a simple yet very effective breathing exercise to ground yourself and relax in a stressful situation.

If you have the feeling that you have lost your centre, then you should try this breathing exercise. It helps you to quickly return to a state of focussed awakeness and deep grounding in moments of high stress.

The principle of this exercise is very simple: 4×4 – like an off-roader or SUV (as a small reminder):

  1. Firstly, inhale for 4 seconds
  2. Then hold your breath for 4 seconds
  3. Then exhale for 4 seconds
  4. And hold your breath for another 4 seconds

Repeat this three times and you should feel grounded again. If not, simply repeat the sequence again or until your heart rate drops and you relax noticeably.
